The track is apparently titled “Shinigami Eyes” — in reference to Death Note and that time she claimed she’d had experimental surgery to eliminate all blue light from her vision — and the preview comes in at just under a minute long. The musician initially teased her appearance on the “Metaverse Stage” (AKA Discord) earlier on June 17, sharing a visual teaser and the words “Shinigami Eyes” written in binary code. Despite some technical difficulties — Grimes explained to fans that she was running through a hospital looking for WiFi — she also managed to discuss an upcoming podcast with her friend and frequent photographer Liv Boeree. Seemingly titled Homo Techno, the podcast is set to touch on some of Grimes’ fave topics, such as potential utopian futures and artificial intelligence (maybe she’ll expand on why it’s the “fastest path to communism”, as claimed in a recent TikTok). Earlier this month, Grimes also teased new music with the EDM DJ Chris Lake, though there’s no news on a release date for that track, or “Shinigami Eyes”, just yet. She also recently starred in the video for Doja Cat’s latest Planet Her single, “Need To Know”, living out her alien dreams on an intergalactic night out.
