Staging fashion shows at unexpected locations has been the norm for some time now, with labels constantly competing to see who can best each other season after season. But when designer Damur Huang headed to a skatepark for his SS27 show, he didn’t just have a regular runway in mind – he transformed the space into an all-out rave that lasted for 10 hours, blurring the lines between fashion, sport and club culture.

Held inside the impressive Skatehalle Berlin, Huang presented his new collection Ride Chaos – Break the Gravity. Rather than start with a runway, the day began with dance, as models entered the space in Huang’s signature neon clubwear. As the dancers surged around the halfpipes, they wore clingy bodysuits covered in pink piping, leopard print boots and reflective jackets, plus layered leg warmers and plaid skater shirts. Once the dance portion was over, a more traditional runway segment took place, before skaters appeared on the scene, slicing through the runway on battered boards, their colourful clothes whizzing into blurs.

At the beginning of 2025, Huang was asked by Hessisches Staatsballett to be the costume designer for its ballet “Become Ocean”. “Working with ballet dancers completely expanded my imagination. I became obsessed with the relationship between the body, movement, lines, chemistry, and choreography,” he tells us. Because of that experience, he decided to incorporate dance into his SS27 show. “I realised how much beauty can emerge through pressure, momentum, and the loss of control,” he continues. “I wanted the clothes to feel alive – made for bodies that run, sweat, skate and dance.

Speaking of dancing, once the runway was over, the show broke out into the rave portion – ten hours of hedonistic freedom that Huang had titled ‘Techno Sluts’. When I ask him about the name, he jokes that, deep down, everyone has a slut living inside of them.

“For me, ‘slut’ is not a specific type of person, sexuality, aesthetic, or nightlife identity. It is a mirror,” he says. “The queer community has deeply inspired me and #DAMUR through its courage to let go of expectations and live with freedom, honesty, and a self-defined identity.” With acts like Ceață, Alienata and Paul Ray on the decks, and Huang inviting the fashion crowd to break the fourth wall and join the runway experience, the all-day rager was designed to break free from the controlled image of a fashion show. “The greatest challenge was bringing many different worlds together as one: a runway show, rave, skatepark, live performances, DJs, guests, and fashion production,” says Huang. “It was also about convincing everyone to trust one shared vision and understand how their individual roles contributed to the whole experience.”
