Previewed to a huge crowd at an outdoor festival in Arizona — one of Lake’s first live performances since lockdown lifted — the track pairs Grimes’ vocal samples with a driving beat and a drop that causes the crowd to erupt in cheers. “Chris Lake testing our song,” she writes, resharing the preview on Instagram. “Shud we release this?” In the comments, the producer replies: “Let’s do it.” The as-yet-untitled track would be the first material released by Grimes since Miss Anthropocene Rave Edition, which arrived earlier this year. As the title suggests, the remix record also included more uptempo versions of songs from Miss Anthropocene, featuring the likes of BloodPop, techno innovator Richie Hawtin, Modeselektor, Channel Tres, and more. Since Miss Anthropocene Rave Edition, Grimes has been busy auctioning off exclusive crypto artworks (as NFTs, obviously) and successfully petitioning Spotify to recognise the ‘ethereal’ genre, which she marked with a co-curated a playlist for the streaming service, featuring the likes of Caroline Polachek, FKA twigs, Arca, and SOPHIE. Last month, meanwhile, she appeared alongside Elon Musk in a bizarre, Mario-themed courtroom drama on SNL. Of course, Elon Musk is likely to be pretty enthusiastic about Grimes’ latest collab, given that he’s dabbled in the world of EDM himself, releasing “Don’t Doubt Ur Vibe” in January 2020, followed by a song about NFTs in March this year.
