As football’s biggest tournament approaches, the world’s attention turns to the players competing at the highest level, with billions of fans across the globe expected to tune in. A typical field and arena is far from the only place “the beautiful game” is played, however. For freestyle footballers like Janella Hernandez, herself, a ball and some creativity are all that’s needed to experience football.

Freestyle football is the art of doing tricks with a football, and it’s a bigger deal than you might think. As the World Freestyle Football Association notes, it’s “an art form, a sport and a lifestyle.” Of course, 26-year-old Hernandez, who first discovered freestyle as a teenager, already knows this. Today, the first-generation Guatemalan American has made a career out of her love for freestyle and works as a creator making content at the intersection of football and fashion. Despite freestyle being a male-dominated arena, Hernandez has been able to carve out her own lane within the space, gaining a following thanks to her unique combination of impeccable skill and fits.

Recently, Hernandez's love of sport and fashion was on full display at this month’s PUMA x Salehe Bembury event in Los Angeles, which celebrated the new collaboration between the sportswear brand and the legendary designer. There, Hernandez took us inside the event, where football fans got to see PUMA’s new travelwear kits and Bembury-designed sneakers for themselves.
