Loewe gets sleazy and Y-Project says no to men
It’s been 84 years since ASAI last showed a collection, but A Sai Ta is officially scheduled to make his comeback at London Fashion Week’s AW23 edition. Having taken a break from the runway for SS20 – and then another owing to coronavirus, and then another, and another – this will be the third time that the designer has pledged to return to the fold. Could this be the season to change it all, uplifting this miserable old town with hot pink and tangerine tie-dyed Hot Wok dresses? Who knows! A graduate of Central Saint Martins and Fashion East, Ta’s work prods at East Asian stereotypes – all Yin Yang bags, Royal Family memorabilia, and Ming vase boots – and became an aesthetic staple for pop stars like Teyana Taylor, Dev Hynes, and Rihanna, with whom he collaborated on a one-off collection back in 2019. ASAI is set to take place on Monday 20 February at 9am – “time to wake up,” as the designer broadcast on Instagram.
In other fashion news this week, Hayley Bieber tried to be funny but it didn’t quite land, Martine Rose debuted on a spectacular Italo Western collection at this season’s Pitti Uomo, and Jonathan Anderson skinned Pepe the Frog. Elsewhere, Prada compounded its daddy issues, Mugler announced its runway return, and Louis Vuitton men’s unveiled its next guest designer. LOEWE GETS SLEAZY
Jonathan Anderson may have just skinned Pepe the Frog at JW Anderson, but he’s approached his Loewe muses – Josh O’Connor and Stephane Bak – with a little more mercy. Shot by David Sims, the duo front the label’s SS23 campaign, decked in brocade breeches, fake anthuriums, sleazy leather y-fronts, and nobbly candelabras. Click here to see more.
Y-PROJECT SAYS NO TO MEN!
Well… kind of. This week, Glenn Martens announced his decision to abandon the menswear season in Paris, choosing to show his collections in a co-ed format during the womenswear shows in February and March.
