Apple's launch of the Apple Watch during Paris Fashion Week drew a star-studded guestlist, including Anna Wintour, Karl Lagerfeld and senior vice president of design Jony Ive. Among those trying on the gadget at the Colette store on the Rue Saint Honoré was Liu Wen, sparking rumours that the Chinese model might be the new face of the Watch.
"My second meeting with the Apple Watch, this time in Colette! The first time? Well, you’ll see soon," Liu Wen wrote on Instagram, posting a picture of herself strapping on the Watch at the launch.
It's no secret that Apple is trying to market the Apple Watch as a more fashion-led luxury accessory. Between poaching industry big hitters like YSL executive Catherine Monier and the highly customisable Watch itself, the company is trying its best to appeal to fashion's fickle tastes.
And it seems to be working – Karl Lagerfeld was reportedly very taken with a black version of the Watch, and was still trying it on ten minutes before the Chanel SS15 show was due to start. Casting a top tier model like Liu Wen in the first ever Apple Watch campaign might just be the trick to cement the growing affections of fashion insiders.
Liu Wen was one of our Dazed model insiders for Milan Fashion Week last year and is one of the world's highest-paid models. This season, she walked for Chanel, Givenchy, Balmain and hit the runway for Jean Paul Gaultier's final show.
