Fashion / NewsFashion / NewsWatch: Felicia Pennant and TJ Sawyerr talk football's future with BurberryThe London-based journalist and creative director discuss key moments in football history, the sport's intersection with fashion and what it means to be a football fan in 2026ShareLink copied ✔️ In Partnership with BurberryJune 30, 2026June 30, 2026Text Dazed Digital While there is never a moment when die-hard fans aren’t following the game, it seems fair to say that 2026 has been one of the biggest years for football in recent memory. Following Arsenal’s win last month and the ongoing World Cup, there is a sense of collective energy felt across the world, with football once again becoming a shared language of identity, community and belonging, expressed everywhere from stadiums to the clothes people wear. Last month, Burberry released its latest “A Good Sport” campaign, exploring the atmosphere of match day and celebrating the energy, community and rituals that surround football culture. Bringing together footballers including Declan Rice, Eberechi Eze, Leah Williamson, Naomi Girma and Son Heung-min, the campaign also features Stephen Graham, Jodie Turner-Smith and Bright. To celebrate both the campaign and Burberry’s long-standing relationship with British sport, we brought journalist and founder of SEASON Zine Felicia Pennant and photographer and creative director TJ Sawyerr head-to-head, to discuss the evolving relationship between football and fashion, the imagery that has defined generations of fans and what it means to be a football supporter in 2026. Their conversation unpacks the moments that make football feel bigger than the game itself, while reflecting on the personal memories attached to some of the sport’s most iconic images. From Thierry Henry’s knee slide against Spurs and Greece’s unexpected Euro 2004 victory over Portugal, to a young Cristiano Ronaldo crying after defeat and Brandi Chastain’s unforgettable celebration after winning the 1999 Women’s World Cup, these moments capture the emotion at the heart of football. Throughout the video, the duo also explore the players who became cultural figures in their own right, from George Best’s rise as a 1960s icon beyond football to the influence of David Beckham and a new generation of athletes using their platforms to shape conversations around style and culture, including Marcus Rashford’s relationship with Burberry and our recent Dazed Summer 2026 Issue cover with Morgan Rodgers. Head to the full video above to watch Felicia Pennant and TJ Sawyerr unpack football, fashion and the culture that connects them. Escape the algorithm!
