Titled “Good Ones”, the track “marks a new era” for the musician, she explains in a statement (having previously sounded the death knell for hyperpop). “Good Ones” also arrives alongside a dramatic, goth-infused music video directed by Hannah Lux Davis, which sees the singer perform dance routines at a funeral ceremony and hop on top of the coffin to lead the procession. In a statement, Charli explains: “The video sees me dramatically mourning the untimely loss of my partner as I battle with the realisation that once again I’ve abandoned the goodness in my life, in favour of the sinister, with a visual aesthetic that marks a new era of me: Charli XCX.” “The first single of my new chapter embraces all that my life has to offer in today’s world,” she adds. “Fame, glamour, inner demons, and global hits.” “Good Ones” was first announced back in August, alongside her Best Song Ever podcast, featuring conversations with Addison Rae, Barbie Ferreira, Ziwe, Christine and the Queens, and Caroline Polachek, and more. Prior to that, Charli appeared in a glitchy remix of A. G. Cook’s “Xcxoplex”, and has also landed a spot on Lady Gaga’s Chromatica Remix album, Dawn of Chromatica.
