Last night (March 18), the 20-year-old dropped her first single “Obsessed”, along with a choreography-heavy music video. Clearly she’s been putting all those TikTok dance routines into good use. Produced by Benny Blanco (Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran), Blake Slatkin (J Balvin, Juice Wrld), and Ryan McMahon (Halsey, the Chainsmokers), “Obsessed” is a glossy pop track about self-love, or obsession (“When you say that you’re obsessed with me, me too,” she croons in the chorus). The music video is directed by Diane Martel, who’s worked with the likes of Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus, and sees Rae wear make-up from her own beauty line, Item Beauty, as well as a slew of Gen Z fashion looks. As the second most-followed person on TikTok, with more than 78 million followers, Rae isn’t short of side hustles. Last year, she starred in Kim Kardashian’s campaign as a SKIMS model and hosts a regular Spotify podcast called Mama Knows Best with her mum. Later this year, she will make her theatrical debut in a gender-swapped remake on the 90s rom-com He’s All That, titled She’s All That. According to Rolling Stone, the ex Hype House member will perform “Obsessed” for the first time on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on March 26. Watch the music video below.
