Appearing alongside her brother and producer Finneas on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, Eilish performed a stripped-back cover of Julie London’s version of the classic song from 1955. “I’m in the Mood For Love” was first published all the way back in 1935, and popularised by the US singer and actress Frances Langford, who entertained troops during World War II. Since then, it’s been reimagined by dozens of high-profile artists. Accompanied by Finneas on guitar, Eilish also treated Live Lounge listeners to three tracks from her most recent album, Happier Than Ever, performing “NDA”, “I Didn’t Change My Number”, and album opener “Getting Older”. In September last year, Billie Eilish herself got the Live Lounge treatment, when Miley Cyrus covered Happier Than Ever’s lead single “my future” as a raspy ballad (revisit that here). Earlier this week, meanwhile, Eilish performed a tender rendition of “Male Fantasy” on a golden bed, following the release of her dramatic “Happier Than Ever” music video. She also recently shared a new teaser for her upcoming concert film on Disney Plus, Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles, in which she transforms into an animated avatar, as well as performing with a live orchestra.
