After soundtracking the summer of 2019, the endlessly-catchy track became the longest-running number one in Billboard Hot 100 history, enjoying a reign of 19 weeks before the streak was ended by Billie Eilish. Now, the most popular “Old Town Road” remix, featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, has seen Lil Nas X break yet another record, as it’s confirmed the most certified song in US music history, with the award of its 14th platinum certification from the RIAA. Daddy Yankee, Luis Fonsi, and Justin Bieber’s “Despacito” previously held the top spot alongside John Legend’s “All of Me”, each with 13 platinum certifications. Celebrating the news on Twitter (with a self-starring meme, ofc) the rapper – and former Dazed cover star – writes: “‘Old Town Road’ is officially 14 times platinum! Most platinums for any song ever! The rapper’s most recent single, released in late 2020, was the festive-themed track “Holiday”. Revisit Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road (Remix)” below. Escape the algorithm!
