‘Bad Guy’ has beaten ‘Old Town Road’ to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart
Lil Nas X’s 19-week reign at the top of the US singles chart has come to an end thanks to Billie Eilish.
“Old Town Road” was knocked off the number one spot by Eilish’s “Bad Guy”, which had previously spent nine weeks hovering at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. “Old Town Road” currently sits at number three.
Eilish’s breakthrough ends an unbelievable chart run that saw Lil Nas X set the record for the longest time a song has spent at number one in the States. The previous record was set by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, and Justin Bieber with “Despacito” in 2017.
Lil Nas X tweeted his congratulations to Eilish after hearing the news that his chart reign was over: “U deserve this!” (He also posted a very funny meme about it, natch.) Billy Ray Cyrus, who features on the “Old Town Road” remix, also showed some love to Eilish: “Well deserved. Your persistence paid off. Thanks everybody. It was a hell of a ride.”
