Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones in Sex and the City

See who’s replacing Samantha as Carrie’s BFF in the Sex and the City reboot

After declaring she’s ‘had enough’ of the franchise, Kim Cattrall won’t return for And Just Like That

In December, it was officially confirmed that a Sex and the City reboot, titled And Just Like That, is on the way. While most of the show’s original actors – including Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis – are set to reprise their roles, Kim Cattrall is steering clear of the franchise, having previously said she’s “had enough” of it.

While disappointing for fans, it seems the producers have swiftly moved on and replaced her role as Samantha Jones. Yesterday (August 22), The Guardian reported that Nicole Ari Parker will join the cast as the fourth member of the iconic New York friendship group. Ari Parker, who’s known for her roles in Empire and Paul Thomas Anderson’s Boogie Nights, will play documentary filmmaker Lisa Todd Wexley, Carrie Bradshaw’s new BFF.

Though there’s no further details about Parker’s casting, a TikTok shared earlier this month may have discovered what happened to Jones in the new SATC script. A passerby who saw the cast filming what appears to be a funeral scene has speculated that the writers have killed off the straight shooting, sexaholic PR executive.

“I was walking down the street in New York City and saw a huge crowd and realised they were filming for Sex and the City,” TikToker Evan Kline says in the video. “But everyone was wearing all black. Is it for Samantha’s funeral?”

Cattrall isn’t the only person not returning for the series’ reboot – legendary costume designer Patricia Field is unfortunately too busy to dress Carrie Bradshaw and gang, as she’s swapped the glamour of SATC for the chaotic, avant basic fashion of Emily in Paris

Other former cast members set to reprise their roles are love interests Chris Noth (Mr Big) – whose character is set for more drama with Carrie – John Corbett (Aiden), David Eigenberg (Steve), and Evan Handler (Harry). Mr Big’s exes are also making an appearance, including Bridget Moynahan (Natasha) and Noelle Beck (Barbara), as are hubbies Willie Garson (Stanford) and Mario Cantone (Anthony).

Sara Ramíez has joined the cast as the show’s first non-binary character Che Diaz, a stand-up comic and podcaster, whose podcast will discuss gender and sexual fluidity, and will feature Carrie as a regular guest star.
