This Sunday saw the return of Fête de la Musique, the annual celebration where Parisians are encouraged to play music as loudly and freely as they possibly can. Founded in 1982 by then minister of culture Jack Lang, over the years Fête has become a focal point of Parisian summer, a huge open air party where all different types of music collide. Yes, Fête may predominantly be a celebration of music, but where one creative art thrives, more soon follow, and the annual celebration is also a great place to fashion-watch. Because of Fête’s youth culture reach (what young person doesn’t love a huge rave in the street?) creativity is expressed through outfits on a massive scale, and this year we sent photographer Layomi Osinowo down to capture the best of them. On the day, most people were dressing for the heat – low slung cargos and vest tops, or big breezy trousers and slimline trainers. It was an exercise in maintaining Parisian cool while keeping your actual cool, with some even stripping down further to tiny patterned bikinis, furry booty shorts and beaded sarongs slung around their waists.
