Emma Stone, Sadie brothers, Nathan Fielder

The Safdie brothers’ first TV show will star Nathan Fielder and Emma Stone

The ‘genre-bending’ comedy casts Fielder and Stone as a newly married couple, with Benny Safdie also set to make an on-screen appearance

Emma Stone will team up with the Safdie brothers and Nathan Fielder on a new TV series for Showtime, titled The Curse. The show – which is produced by A24 – is described as “a genre-bending scripted comedy that explores how an alleged curse disturbs the relationship of a newly married couple as they try to conceive a child while co-starring on their problematic new HGTV show,” as reported by The Wrap.

Stone and Fielder will star as the newly married couple in the half-hour comedy, while Benny Safdie is also set make an appearance as the producer of the on-screen show. Both of the Safdie brothers behind Uncut Gems and Good Time will direct, and write alongside Fielder, who co-created the project.

The Curse marks the first foray into TV for Benny and Josh Safdie, and was greenlit back in February this year. Nathan Fielder has previously starred in the acclaimed comedy series Nathan For You, while Emma Stone’s last television role was in Cary Fukunaga’s Netflix series Maniac, across from Jonah Hill.

“The fierce intelligence and wit of the incomparable Emma Stone make her the perfect partner with the ingenious minds of the Safdie brothers and the subversive comedy of Nathan Fielder,” says Showtime’s scripted programming boss, Amy Israel.

A24 has previously been involved in TV projects including the Zendaya-starring Euphoria, which recently returned for the first of two special episodes. Back in October, Euphoria’s Alexa Demie also sat down with Nathan Fielder on The A24 Podcast, with the pair having “long admired each other’s work”.

A release date for The Curse is yet to be confirmed. In the meantime, revisit Dazed’s interview with the Safdie brothers for an insight into the making of Uncut Gems.
