Earlier today, Rick Owens managed to unveil a collection so scorching that it rivalled the Parisian heat. Kicking off another day of SS27 men’s shows, functionality was clearly at the forefront of the designer’s mind.

The palette was largely muted – black and neutral hues – as models made their way down the concrete catwalk at Palais de Tokyo in fitted tops, boxy jackets with turned-up lapels, leather and cropped knitted vests. The accessories, by contrast, were hardly subtle, with capacious crossbody bags appearing alongside boots rendered in baggy leather.

But, as always with Rick, there was a twist. Titled Stone, the SS27 collection marked the designer’s first partnership with adidas since 2017. The result? Inflatable jackets with built-in cooling systems(!), long, draped coats kissing the ground and air-filled tracksuits tucked into lofty shoes, all finished with the brand’s signature three-stripe detailing. According to the show notes, the garments were inspired by runners and designed to help them cool down.

If the inflatable sportswear wasn’t enough to contend with, the beauty looks were OTT too. Larger-than-life, kaleidoscopic lashes were front and centre, emphasised by blackened pupils and the shaggy, unkempt gradient wigs Rick has favoured over the past few seasons.

The adidas collaboration comes just months after the sportswear giant teamed up with Simone Rocha, during London Fashion Week AW26 in February. An ode to the British Isles, the line blended Rocha’s delicate detailing with a tougher, sportier aesthetic. Elsewhere, Willy Chavarria reimagined adidas silhouettes for both AW25 and 26, crafting streetwear that doubled as a love letter to Mexico. Whatever will adidas Originals cook up next…?
