According to Deadline, American TV network Showtime has ordered a pilot of the Uncut Gems directors and Nathan For You creator’s half-hour show, called The Curse. Written by and starring Fielder and Benny Safdie, the series will explore how a curse disturbs the relationship of a newly married couple who star in the fictional – and troubled – HGTV show, Flipanthropy. Fielder will play the husband, while Benny is cast as the producer of the HGTV series. Both Benny and Josh Safdie, as well as Fielder are set to executive produce the pilot, and although the plan is for the brothers to direct the series, they aren’t directing the pilot. The announcement comes after Uncut Gems scooped three awards at this year’s Independent Spirit Awards, including for Best Director and Best Editing, while Adam Sandler took home the accolade for Best Male Lead. The film was unfairly snubbed by the Oscars, to which Sandler responded: “Bad news: Sandman gets no love from the Academy. Good news: Sandman can stop wearing suits.” It’s yet to be confirmed who else will star in The Curse, or when the pilot will be filmed.
