Last month (June 25), after the coronavirus pandemic had pushed the launch back from March, the Air Jordan 1 OG Dior sneakers were finally made available to the public on a first-come, first-served basis, via a dedicated microsite. Now, it’s been revealed that over 5 million people registered for a chance to buy them, as reported by WWD. The high-top and low-top versions of the shoes were priced at $2,200 and $2,000, respectively. Although 13,000 pairs were produced, only 8,000 pairs were actually available to the public, while the other 5,000 were offered to Dior’s top clients, via personal invitation. Somewhat predictably, the public site shut down just hours after the launch, having already received the flood of registrations. A pop-up store in Selfridge’s Corner Shop will serve as a showcase and pick-up point for the sneakers, running July 8 to July 21. To give a sense of their exclusivity, a countdown will be on display at the pop-up event, counting down as the shoes are picked up.
