Kim Jones is heading to Miami to show his next Dior menswear collection

The show is set to take place just two days before Art Basel 2019 kicks off

Following in the footsteps of Saint Laurent, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Versace which have all opted to take their runway shows to the USA in recent seasons, Dior is the latest label to head across the Atlantic – announcing its AW20 menswear collection will debut in Miami on December 3.

Taking place just two days before international art fair Art Basel kicks off in the city, the move makes total sense. In his short time as Dior menswear’s artistic designer, Kim Jones has already joined forces with the likes of Daniel Arsham, Hajime Sorayama, and KAWS on a series of installations and collaborations, and his interest in contemporary art well documented.

It’s also a poignant move for the house, nodding to the extensive tour of the United States Christian himself embarked on in 1947. “The US was the first place after France where Christian Dior enjoyed success, and I am looking at a project he did in the 1950s in the States as a starting point for Fall,” Jones explains. “I am really looking forward to presenting our first men’s show in the US as the perfect precursor to Art Basel.”
