Playing on TikTok’s “Is he hot or...” trend, she writes: “Is he hot or is he out to destroy big oil? Is he hot or will he put the first human on Mars?” “Is he hot or is he giving an (sic) $100 million prize for scalable ideas to remove CO2 from the Earth’s atmosphere? Is he hot or is he developing batteries that don’t use cobalt thereby eliminating unethical mining practices from the supply chains for our cars and phones?” As is to be expected, commenters aren’t entirely convinced. “Is he hot or is he first on the menu when the class war begins?” one replies. Another adds: “Is he hot or is he a textbook neo-colonialist?” All good questions, and we’re still waiting to hear how Grimes feels about the humanoid Tesla bots that Musk unveiled earlier this week (which are, at least, “intended to be friendly”, he says). Grimes and Elon Musk’s relationship, and the very apparent rifts in their respective worldviews, have been in the spotlight since they attended the Met Gala together in 2018. Among his critics, Musk counts the worldwide hacking collective Anonymous, which criticised his intended colonisation of the Red Planet, as well as alleged ecological damage, in June this year. Last year, Werner Herzog also pitched in, comparing his Mars mission to fascism. Grimes has also recently used TikTok to share snippets of her new song “Shinigami Eyes”, which played behind a video of her frolicking with yet another robot dog — this time, Boston Dynamics’ Spot — in a post shared earlier this week.
