As one of ASICS’ latest ambassadors, the Amsterdam-based creative reflects on her craft and living in the Dutch capital

To celebrate the edition of its iconic GT-2160™ sneaker, ASICS has looked to cities across Europe to find unique and authentic storytellers who embody ‘Ikigai’ (生き甲斐) – a Japanese concept that relates to finding a sense of purpose through one’s passions, missions, professions and vocations.
Based in Berlin, Amsterdam and Paris, each city ambassador represents a new generation of creatives using their passions to create a connection between their mind and body. Currently based in Amsterdam, Amalia Taleï is a rising chocolatier among the label’s new group of talent. Discussing the energy of the city, she explained to us; “What I'm hooked on in Amsterdam is its knack for constant surprise; just when I'm convinced I've seen it all, there's an entire roster of hidden gems waiting to be uncovered. It's got this snug, intimate vibe and the cleanliness of the streets paradoxically fuels my rebellious side”.

The development of her craft in the field was born during a time of personal hardship and allowed her to find a multi-sensory way to express herself. “My passion for chocolate sparked during my childhood as the only candy I liked,” she explained to us. “As a former pastry chef, I faced a job loss during lockdown and this prompted me to create my own chocolate, revealing a world of endless expression and innovation. I've been devoted to this journey for 3 years, continuously inspired by its boundless opportunities.”

The idea of mindfulness through sport is reminiscent of the original intentions founder Kihachiro Onitsukathe had when he first set out to use ASICS as a means of uplifting people through movement.
“Staying grounded in the city to me is about syncing mind and body. Routines are key, making time for skincare and mindful eating truly anchors me,” Taleï explained. “Daily stretches and podcasts replace yoga when time is tight. It's an evolving journey – from soothing piano tunes to high BPM beats. These shifts in approach keep me rooted and balanced, allowing all feelings and experiences to immerse me fully in the highs and the lows!”
