The Italian house is backing the March for Our Lives rally, set to take place on March 24
On Wednesday, Alessandro Michele presented his AW18 collection for Gucci at MFW. With models carrying copies of their severed heads and others clutching baby dragons and giant chameleons, let’s be honest: it was amazing. Now, in a completely different (and even more incredible) move, the Italian brand has just announced it is making a donation directed towards gun control.
Following a school shooting in Parkland, Florida that killed 17 people, students from the school and Everytown for Gun Safety organised the ‘March for Our Lives’ rally to bring about change in legislated gun control in the US. in solidarity with those marching, Gucci has donated $500,000 to support the cause.
“I am truly moved by the courage of these students,” Michele told WWD. “I am standing with March for Our Lives and the strong young women and men across the United States who are fighting for their generation and those to come.”
Taking place on March 24, the march is expected amass over 500,000 attendees. While Trump has suggested that the solution to shootings in America is to bring more guns into schools, those behind the march are hoping it will bring about more control to limit tragedies like Parkland being repeated.
