In a clash of English heritage and eco-friendly Brazilian footwear, the new Melissa X The Cambridge Satchel Company range brings a collection of three limited edition plastic satchels which combine CSC’s reputation for craftsmanship with the recognisable look of Melissa’s playful plastic creations. To celebrate the collaboration, Melissa teamed up with Dazed to enlist the London-based designer, art director and artist Chrissie Abbott along with photographer and Dazed Digital contributor Steph Wilson. Inspired by alternate realities, dreams and nature, Abbott used Wilson’s shots to create exclusive animations which capture the futuristic spirit of the collection. Melissa’s original riviera-inspired jelly shoes have morphed over the years, gaining a following that led to their designs being lent to everyone from the godmother of punk Vivienne Westwood, to inimitable couturiers Karl Lagerfeld and Jean Paul Gaultier, continually moulding their vision to provide environmentally-friendly plastic designs with their footwear. The brand share their affinity for collaboration with CSC as they, too, worked with Westwood last year and have had past projects with iconoclastic Japanese label Comme des Garçons. In this most recent collection using their signature malleable plastic, Melissa has left CSC’s leather behind, reincarnating the classic 11” satchel to deliver three limited edition high-shine bags in glossy red, holographic and black. The collection is now available online, at Galeria Melissa London, and at The Cambridge Satchel flagship store Escape the algorithm!
