Karoline Vitto’s new show, Thaw, conveys a powerful sense of optimism. This is partly about the changing of the seasons, as winter turns into spring, with all the hope and renewal that promises. And it’s partly about the return of curve size models – almost coming out of hibernation, as the show notes put it – after years of headlines about their absence, making Thaw a necessary rebuttal to a culture which seems to valorise thinness as much as ever before. While it’s true that “the weight of body diversity should not rest on a handful of designers”, as the show notes read, it’s great to have Vitto back.
