As a semi-finalist for the 2026 LVMH Prize, the Andalusian artist managed to lure even the industry’s biggest critics to the far reaches of west London’s Ladbroke Hall. Given all this information, it might surprise you to know that del Valle doesn’t call himself a fashion designer, nor is his brand, Thevxlley (pronounced “the valley”) a fashion label. What he showed yesterday was his first solo project, The Narcissist – a collection of wearable art that’s been in the making for the past three years. Having grown up in a small village west of Seville, del Valle moved to London aged 19 and eventually landed a job as a florist, working for luxury London flower brand Paul Thomas Flowers. He later collaborated with provocative, body-morphing underwear designer Michaela Stark, before branching out on his own. The collection, as seen yesterday, takes clear influence from his past – both as a florist and from working alongside Stark. Huge porcelain vases were turned into bodices, corseted at the back and sides with silk ribbons and immensely heavy to wear. If flowers weren’t part of the vases, they were shooting out from models’ heels, strapped to their feet. A pianist played from a grand piano as models weaved through floral arrangements, leaving behind them a trail of petals. Before the show was due to start, one of the ceramics smashed backstage, just moments before it was due to appear on the runway. Meanwhile, a glass orb plunged to the ground during the final model’s walk, shattering at the entrance to the backstage area. It might have been an accident, but it only added to the drama and spectacle, emphasising this collection as wearable art and not a fashion show. As far as debuts go, Daniel del Valle couldn’t have made a better or more striking impact on London’s fashion scene. Scroll through the gallery above for all the looks Escape the algorithm!
