Making the announcement yesterday (September 24), the SpaceX founder said that they are still on good terms and continue to co-parent their son, X AE A-XII, but have primarily split due to his work commitments. “We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms,” he tells Page Six. “It’s mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or traveling overseas and her work is primarily in LA. She’s staying with me now and Baby X is in the adjacent room.” Grimes herself has previously spoken out about the difficulties of being with Musk, pushing back against claims that the Tesla billionaire funds her career, and telling fans to stop “harassing” her over their relationship. Of course, one of the biggest critics of the couple wasn’t just a fan, but a potential collaborator: Azealia Banks. In case you somehow forgot, Banks confirmed that she was working with Grimes back in 2018, though the collaboration process didn’t work out so smoothly. A couple of months after the initial announcement, Banks revealed that she’d found herself “sitting at Musk’s house alone for days” waiting for the musician to show up. Her subsequent updates from his LA home were inflammatory, to say the least: they included a range of savage Elon Musk burns, and somehow ended up in her being subpoenaed for evidence in a fraud case revolving around his infamous 420 tweet. Now, though, Azealia Banks is apparently willing to put her differences with Grimes aside. Sharing a screenshot of the Page Six article about Grimes’ breakup with Musk, Banks writes: “Ok girl, can we finally make those darn songs now that apartheid Clyde is out of the way?” Referencing their past efforts to link up, she adds: “We were really supposed to eat these bitches up.” Needless to say, given the pair’s history — summed up in Grimes’ recent song “about having to defeat Azealia Banks when she tried to destroy my life” — Banks could be waiting a while to hear back.
