It’s a bit of a departure from the previous tracks the singer’s previewed, mainly led by an acoustic guitar. It’s also “a pretty bummer song,” Grimes says, discussing the new track with Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1. “I guess it’s kind of about the opioid epidemic,” she adds. “I’ve had quite a few friends actually pass away… in particular one friend when I was like 18 passed away from complications related to opioid addiction.” She also talks about this in the wider context of the epidemic of young artists dying from similar causes, and reveals that the track itself was written on the night that Lil Peep died. Previous tracks released from Miss Anthropocene include “So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth”, “My Name is Dark”, and “4ÆM”, which debuted at the 2019 Game Awards.
