Aphex Twin, Cardi B, and Years & Years are Brit Awards 2019 nominees

Alongside The Carters, Kamasi Washington, Brockhampton and more

This year’s Brit Awards nominations are in, with nods to British acts such as Aphex Twin (for best male artist), Years & Years and Gorillaz, both in the British Group category, and Jorja Smith, who’s been nominated for best solo female and best album.

International nominees include Beyoncé and Jay-Z (under their collective name, The Carters), who will be going up against Brockhampton for best group. Among the best international females are Ariana Grande, Cardi B, and Christine and the Queens, while there are some familiar faces among their male counterparts too: Travis Scott, Drake, and Kamasi Washington feature.

Also seen in the British Breakthrough Act category are a couple of former Dazed 100ers, namely Mabel and Jorja Smith (who, if you’ve not been paying attention, has picked up three nominations).

Last year, after convincing the awards show to diversify its voting panel, Stormzy took to the stage to deliver a searing freestyle, asking (most memorably): “Yo, Theresa May, where’s the money for Grenfell?” Will we see any abrasive political commentary at this year’s show? Well, we’ll have to wait to find out.
