Travi$ Scott
Rapper and producer Travis Scott, (AKA La Flame, real name Jacques Bermon Webster II) was born in Houston, Texas, on April 30, 1991. In 2008, he released an EP with schoolmate Chris Holloway as The Graduates via Myspace, and another two group projects in 2009 and 2010. His first solo full-length was the long-delayed 2013 mixtape Owl Pharaoh, championed by Kanye West and released through his GOOD Music label.
Owl Pharaoh featured collaborations with 2 Chainz, Wale, A$AP Ferg, Meek Mill and more. The high-profile collaborations continued on Scott’s second mixtape, 2014’s Days Before Rodeo, with guest appearances including Young Thug, Big Sean and The 1975. Days Before Rodeo’s title turned out to be quite literal: in 2015, the rapper followed the mixtape with his debut studio album, Rodeo. Featuring the hit single “Antidote”, the album featured another extensive list of guest appearances, from Migos’ Quavo, Future, Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee and Kanye to Justin Bieber, The Weeknd and Toro y Moi.
In 2016, Scott released his sophomore album, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight, followed by a collaborative album with Quavo in late 2017. The following year saw the release of his hotly anticipated third album, Astroworld – with 21 Savage, Frank Ocean, James Blake, Tame Impala, Thundercat, Juice WRLD and more – as well as a Houston-based festival of the same name. He also made his debut as the face of Saint Laurent in 2016. In 2020 Scott returned with mentor Kanye West for the post-Jesus Is Kingtrack “Wash Us in the Blood”. Raised in the Christian faith, he said of collaborating on the religious song: “I still find faith in everything.”
In 2017, Scott began dating Kylie Jenner, and they had their first child, Stormi Webster, in 2018. The pair have since separated, though he says the family maintain a close relationship. Scott has also earned a reputation as an all-round nice guy, speaking highly of his fans – “They make me feel, like, alive, to be honest,” he tells Dazed – and donating to social justice and disaster relief organisations.
