The singer met with some of the centre’s young people and performed a track from Joanne. The Ali Forney Centre is a place that, according to its website “provide(s) LGBTQ young people housing and a continuum of supportive services to help them thrive and prepare them for independent living”. Madonna made a previous visit last year. The Brooklyn-based shelter, which opened in 2002, was named after Ali Forney, a homeless, gender nonconforming teenager who who was murdered in 1997. Gaga brought gifts to the centre, led a meditation and performed an acoustic version of “Million Reasons”. Speaking to I Heart Radio, she said: “I’m here because I want to be here. And I’m here because I want this to affect other people around the world and to remind them that when they are kind, it not only makes the other person feel good, but it makes me feel good too.” After visiting, she tweeted (with emojis): “I spent a beautiful morning w/ (LGBT) youth @AliForneyCenter the largest drop-in center in the (world).
