Travis Scott, Circus Maximus trailerFilm & TVNewsTravis Scott announces a surprise new film, Circus MaximusA collaboration with Nicolas Winding Refn, Harmony Korine and Gaspar Noé, the much-rumoured film hits cinemas this week, alongside the release of the rapper’s new album, UtopiaShareLink copied ✔️July 27, 2023Film & TVNewsTextDazed Digital Rumours about a mysterious Travis Scott film have been circulating ever since the musician signed a deal with A24 back in 2021, but exact details have been hard to come by. Now, though, we can finally confirm that something is on the way, timed to coincide with his forthcoming album, Utopia. Teased in an enigmatic trailer this week, the 75-minute film – titled Circus Maximus – seemingly spans floodlit stages, ancient ruins, and misty caves. To be honest, that’s about all we know about the content itself, though AMC (the US cinema chain that is exclusively screening Circus Maximus) has also provided a rough description. “Prepare to enter Circus Maximus as Travis Scott takes his audience on a mind-bending visual odyssey across the globe, woven together by the speaker rattling sounds of his highly anticipated upcoming album Utopia,” reads the outline. “The film is a surreal and psychedelic journey, uniting a collective of visionary filmmakers from around the world in a kaleidoscopic exploration of human experience and the power of soundscapes.” Who are those aforementioned directors? Well one of them, obviously, is Travis Scott himself. Then, rounding out an all-star lineup, are five additional filmmakers: Nicolas Winding Refn, Harmony Korine, Gaspar Noé, Valdimar Jóhannsson (of Lamb fame), and Kahlil Joseph. The production company behind the film, meanwhile, was originally announced as A24, whose logo even appeared on a promotional poster. In a recent interview with Variety, however, A24 denied any connection to Circus Maximus, leading to whispers that they cut ties due to Scott’s numerous controversies in recent years. Nevertheless, Circus Maximus is indeed on the way, scheduled to hit AMC cinemas from July 27. It’s not yet clear when it will come out in the UK, but in the meantime you can scour the trailer for details below.
