In the mid-00s, the tabloids lapped up their longtime feud, and the subsequent headlines have been immortalised as artworks. Now, there’s a possibility of that rivalry coming to the big screen. This year’s Black List – a poll of the most talked-about scripts without a producer, run by hundreds of Hollywood film executives – includes a listing for a film aptly-titled Frenemy. Written by Ariel Sayegh, the script is described as: “A chronicle of the infamous Lindsay Lohan/Paris Hilton feud of 2004-2006 over who would be Britney Spears’ best friend.” To recap, an undeniable high point of the pair’s time in the limelight came in 2006, when they piled into a sports car with Britney Spears, headed out on a night out – a Holy Trinity, if you will. 11 years anniversary today since the first coming of The Holy Trinity! pic.twitter.com/dxGwTLnFDv— Paris Hilton (@ParisHilton) November 27, 2017 12 years later, in 2018, Hilton would claim that Lohan “totally party-crashed”, telling Sirius XM: “We were all at the Beverly Hills Hotel, at the bungalows, at an afterparty, and Britney and I wanted to leave to go home. And then she started chasing us... and then squeezed in the car.” Either way, fingers crossed we’ll get to see the scene reenacted in Frenemy sometime in the future. Although no producer is attached, the Black List has a pretty good record of identifying successful scripts – Juno, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Revenant, Queen & Slim, and I, Tonya have all previously featured. That being said, stories involving celebrities can often be difficult to push through, production-wise. A Madonna biopic, titled Blond Ambition, also topped the Black List back in 2016, before the musician shot it down. “Nobody knows what I know and what I have seen,“ she wrote in an Instagram post. “Only I can tell my story. Anyone else who tries is a charlatan and a fool.” Now, Madonna is setting the record straight with her own biopic, co-written with Juno’s Diablo Cody.
