From virus-related porn and free adult site memberships for those in quarantine, to dating in isolation and the rise of sex toy sales, there’s nothing like a pandemic to get you hot under the collar. So, now that Cannes Film Festival has been cancelled, it only makes sense for it to be streamed on the one platform still thriving. Enter: YouPorn. The adult site has offered to host the festival, which has been postponed for the first time since it began in 1946. YouPorn said it could “guarantee an impactful debut for selected films” if the two were to team up. According to Consequence of Sound, YouPorn’s vice president Charlie Hughes directly emailed Cannes’ president Pierre Lescure to offer a helping hand. Hughes suggested that YouPorn could host the official line-up announcement and stream the festival’s upcoming feature films in a “special section” on the site. Via YouPorn “At YouPorn, in the face of a pandemic, we take our role in people’s now more socially distanced lives seriously, in terms of keeping our community connected and entertained. We’d hate to see this renowned event called off for the first time in its 73-year history,” wrote Hughes. “We have a robust infrastructure already in place for large scale content streaming, and would be delighted to help keep this esteemed event on track with its initially planned programming and timing.” Cannes Film Festival was originally scheduled for May 12 to 23, with a new date currently unconfirmed. When announcing the cancellation last week (March 20), organisers said: “At this time of global health crisis, our thoughts go to the victims of the COVID-19 and we express our solidarity with all of those who are fighting the disease.” The festival’s postponement follows the cancellation of SXSW, Coachella, and Glastonbury, the latter of which will be replaced by a televised “celebration” of the festival.
