Her latest project, More Is More, released back in September, saw the musician embark on numerous shows across the UK and Europe, making her the perfect muse to join forces with cult German luggage and bag brand RIMOWA for the launch of the RIMOWA Classic Titanium range. For the shoot, shot by Alice Neale and styled by Morena Salas, Riley paid a visit to the home and studio of photographer Graeme Montgomery in Clerkenwell, its mid-century brutalist interiors providing a strong backdrop for the photo series. From unpacking her kit to warming up and stepping into performance mode, the images paint a candid picture of a talent on the rise, giving us a behind-the-scenes glimpse into her inner world. “It was a lovely vibe on set, especially with the gorgeous glam team; we had such a giggle,” says Riley. “I especially loved walking in and seeing the stylist with all the gorgeous clothes and jewellery laid out.” Giving Dazed an exclusive first look, the collection comes in three different sizes, while its instantly recognisable aesthetic is sleek, timeless and durable, making it an instant staple for artists on the go. Below, Riley shares her travel tips, including her dream destination, travel day routine, and how RIMOWA helps her “travel in style”. What’s the best place to hear live music? George Riley: I saw the amazing Keiyaa at Corsica Studios recently, and she sounded amazing. Long live Corsica Studios. What’s your dream four-city tour line-up? George Riley: Fab question, I love to travel. You’d be exhausted if you did this in one go, but my dream audiences to play for would go: Dublin, Rio, NYC, and Tokyo. Photography Alice Neale What’s one venue anywhere in the world that’s worth travelling to? George Riley: The White Hotel in Manchester. Where is your favourite place to travel to and why? George Riley: I love going to new places, but I feel so relaxed and happy in Jamaica. If I could go every year, I would. Best city in the world to go out? George Riley: Rio! Favourite place in the world to shop? George Riley: I absolutely love vintage shopping. Paris has some of the best vintage and second-hand shops, but it’s not the cheapest. I know Tokyo has some amazing shopping – I’m desperate to go back. Dream destination? George Riley: I’d love to go to Taiwan. You can go to any place in the world, during any era, with three musicians alive or dead. Where are you going and who are you taking with you? George Riley: Grace Jones, Kelela and Larry Heard. Undoubtedly, we’d have a kii. RIMOWA is famous for its range of colourways and materials. Which one did you enjoy the most? George Riley: I love the new baby pink suitcase. But, for me, I just love the classics, which are very timeless. What’s the weirdest thing you pack on tour? George Riley: I love olives, so I try to pack little bags of snack olives for a bit of sustenance. Also, my big vocal straw looks a bit funny, but it helps get the voice in key. What three things do you always pack when travelling? George Riley: I love a face mask as travelling can make you really dry. Also, electrolytes and a fab book are essential. Photography Alice Neale What is the first thing you do when you get to a new city? George Riley: Immediately, get into the food. I love food and am always hungry, so I love trying new things and finding the best street food and restaurants. On the actual journey, what do you do? George Riley: Definitely download some TV to watch, read my book, and if I can get some sleep, I love that too. What’s your travel comfort watch? George Riley: Succession, Peep Show, Schitt's Creek. What do you like the most about a RIMOWA suitcase? George Riley: I love to travel in style, obviously, and a RIMOWA is the most fab. I love that it is so durable and has a lifetime guarantee. It can age with you and become a staple in your wardrobe. What is your travel day routine? George Riley: I’m always late, so definitely faffing about and freaking out that I've lost my passport. Then I would have an everything shower. I love to be super clean, preened and moisturised, and that makes you feel nice, cosy and ready for anything. Are you an organised packer or do you pack the same day as the trip? George Riley: I'm a same-day packer, unfortunately. It's always down to the wire. Do you pack any food or drinks that you cannot get anywhere but home? George Riley: Not really, but I do take a vocal honey that helps to protect my voice. Where in the world do you feel the most inspired to be creative, and why? George Riley: I feel inspired all over. I think it's more about the people you're with.
