Paco Rabanne forecasts a wet hot summer with its new campaign

Julien Dossena just dropped a rain-soaked film for SS23

It might still be freezing outside, and the sun may still be setting at 4.37PM every day, but we’re hurtling towards the summer at breakneck speed if fashion is to be believed. With the SS23 campaigns rolling in thick and fast across the course of the last few weeks, the latest to arrive in our inbox comes from Paco Rabanne

Seemingly, the Paris-based house, headed up right now by Julien Dossena, doesn’t have high hopes for a lot of sunny days come summer 2023. Instead, the designer plants his model cast in the centre of a rainstorm, where they stomp and splash about in a series of looks from his latest offering.

On the line-up are painterly printed separates like louche, silky tops and flippy frilled minis, a series of knockout slip dresses finished with dramatic sweeping fringing, and modish, see-through vinyl trenches that are a bit more appropriate for the wet conditions than, say, the slick contemporary wool suiting.

Also included in the new film, which was directed by Dossena and Marie-Amelie Sauvé, is one of the house’s signature chain-link looks, which this time comes with a pair of clompy silver boots and a matching headscarf. It looks pretty chic against the watery backdrop, but begs the question: isn’t that going to rust?
