Including Bella Hadid morphing into a winged horse at Mugler, a cute new film from Jacquemus, and a defiantly joyful zine featuring Charles Jeffrey’s queer community
Good morning from London, where we are teetering on the brink of a second lockdown and chaos, largely thanks to BJ et al, reigns supreme. One constant we can rely on, however, comes in the steady stream of fashion news trickling in from around the world, because, as we’re all fully aware by now, the industry waits for no highly-contagious virus.
Along with Raf Simons’ first ever womenswear collection which lands today at 2pm CEST (set your watches one and all), this week also saw Rihanna enlist a group of breast cancer ‘survivors and thrivers’ to front her latest Savage x Fenty campaign, Kim Kardashian West get upstaged by a rogue hair extension, and short-lived streaming platform Quibi drop explosive tell-all American Apparel doc Big Rad Wolf before its curtains close for good.
Think we’re done there? Not even close. Click through the gallery below to see the best of the rest and follow Dazed Fashion’s IG for plenty more where all this came from.

Aries dropped a new collab
Joining forces with New Balance, the label debuted a collaborative offering inspired by terrace culture and the casuals of the 1990s. Made up of sneakers, windbreakers, and track-pants, Aries enlisted David Sims to capture the collection in a pretty unconventional way (see: understatement). How? Strapped it to a rocket and shot it into the sky, obvs.

A new Gucci zine landed
Edited by Dazed 100-er Adam Eli, the second issue of Gucci’s Chime zine was unleashed on the world this week. On the line-up this time around are stories on what it’s like to date as a trans person and visionary Japanese feminist journal Bluestocking, as well as an interview with members of WAIFU – a resistance nightlife party in the Shinjuku Ni-Chōme area of Tokyo. Check the whole thing out here.

The Rick Owens express rolled into town
After landing at Milan Fashion Week AW20 in a custom, blacked-out bus, Rick Owens and Michele Lamy were back on board to celebrate the launch of Owens’ Moncler collab this week. With both starring in a monochrome campaign decked out in blown-up jumbo jackets and XXL yeti-like boots, Lamy was also on hand to helm a series of talks with notable figures from Milan’s cultural scene.

Bella Hadid morphed into a winged horse
…as part of a new film by Mugler, which served as a precursor to Casey Cadwallader’s SS21 collection. Dropping glimpses of the process on her IG, the model was seen undergoing a full body scan before being given the CGI treatment. The final film sees Hadid flying through the clouds, with rising star Ariish Wol and Mugler icon Ms. Debra Shaw also featured in the trippy visuals. Watch it here.

Charles Jeffrey celebrated his community
With friends and loved ones everywhere still largely separated by the pandemic, the Scottish designer made the decision to celebrate his nearest and dearest through a poignant zine which also debuted his latest collection. Lensed in typical through-the-looking-glass fashion by Tim Walker, the trippy but touching portraits offer a glimpse at ‘a queer family, captured in defiant joy’ (and yes, the clothes are pretty great too).

Prada auctioned off a bunch of memorabilia
Miuccia enlisted legendary London auction house Sotheby’s to sell off items from her AW20 shows, with invitations, original behind-the-scenes photos, and accessories seen as part of the collection itself all on the line-up. Bringing in the big money, however, was the Rem Koolhaas-designed Atlas statue that took centre stage at her womenswear presentation, which one lucky Prada stan took home for a little over 50,000 Euros. Casual.

Jacquemus debuted a cute new film
...for his AW20 collection, L’ANNÉE 97. Featuring a model who sanitises her hands before sitting down to a retro computer to get her WFH on. Naturally, there’s more than a few tiny bags involved, as well as chunky gold jewellery and candy-coloured sunglasses.

CHAOS reigned at Fendi
...as the Italian label joined forces with accessories label CHAOS on a new collaborative collection. Made up of futuristic tech-y pieces that offer up a place to keep your AirPods and logo-emblazoned laptop sleeves, the offering landed at a cute Fendi yellow and baby pink pop-up in iconic London landmark Harrods. Check it out here.

Rei presented her SS21 Comme des Garçons collection
With XXL PPE-like vinyl coats and wipe-clean eye-covered tunics featuring heavily, there was also an appearance from Minnie Mouse herself. The offering was anything but cute, though, with the show space bathed in an ominous red glow. With Kawakubo centring each season's collection around a single word, for SS21, dissonance reigned, and tbh, right now... that sounds about right.
