With brands like Balenciaga presenting collections which looked towards the end of the world, the sentiment could also be found off the runway, with many fashion week attendees sporting medical masks, as entire fashion weeks were called off due to the outbreak of coronavirus. With a number of brands postponing their shows as a result of the spreading disease, Gucci is the latest label to announce the cancellation of its upcoming Cruise 2021 presentation, set to take place in San Francisco in May. Revealed in a statement last night, the house said that due to “the ongoing uncertainty prompted by the coronavirus outbreak” it will be cancelling its show “as a precautionary measure.” The statement continued: “A decision on the new timing and location of the show will be announced at a later date, once the situation becomes clearer. At this time, our thoughts are with all of those affected around the world.” The news follows the announcement that Prada will be postponing its upcoming Cruise show, slated to take place on May 21 in Tokyo. Elsewhere, Nike HQ has temporarily closed its doors after one of its employees was infected with COVID-19.
