From the rapidly melting polar ice caps, to the wildfires currently raging in the Amazon, we have reached a crucial point when it comes to ensuring the future of our planet – and it seems, as of recently, that the fashion industry has finally realised the changes that need to be made when it comes to sustainability. One label taking its responsibility to the earth pretty seriously is The North Face. Over the course of the last few years, the brand has stepped up its efforts to become more environmentally conscious, launching a series of programs which educate the next generation on climate change and empower them to take action against it. It’s also pushing forward when it comes to making its garments sustainable, with a huge focus on utilising recycled and repurposed fabrics within its collections. In fact, the brand has ceased to work with Brazilian suppliers without clarification they are not contributing to the environmental destruction which is right now plaguing the country. This month, The North Face debuts a new, innovative style with sustainability at its core: the Thermoball Eco. A new and improved version of its classic, award-winning ThermoBall jacket, this time around the style is crafted using 100 per cent recycled polyester, and filled with 100 per cent recycled insulation. And while functionality is still fundamental, the style is designed with the global streetwear scene in mind. Now, to celebrate its launch – and give you a few ideas as to how to style your own Thermoball Eco – we dragged five members of the Dazed team into the fashion cupboard and told them to go wild. From rolling it into a ball and stuffing it into a tiny Telfar bag, to giving it a sculptural twist via a handful of carefully placed safety-pins, check out the video to see how they put their own spin on it.
