Just as it did last season, for SS26 the Jordan-based label launched a film showcasing its new collection. Titled Bikini Diplomacy, the film gives us a front row view of the clothes as well as taking us behind the scenes as models get their hair and makeup done. Founded in 2017 by duo Shukri Lawrence and Omar Braika, Trashy Clothing uses satire to communicate the designers’ experiences and messages. They describe themselves as an “Anti-luxury luxury label” and use contradictions throughout every collection. “We’re also trying to fuck the industry and start a new one,” Lawrence explained in an interview with Dazed MENA earlier this year. “Start from zero with our own standards. Our concept speaks for itself on the surface, but when you look deeper into the brand’s messaging and visuals, you start to see the world that we’re trying to build through fashion. Storytelling is at the heart of what we do.” For SS26, the story that they’re telling is one of temptation, allure and how that can be weaponised. However, in typical Trashy Clothing fashion, the brand has flipped the Siren-like narrative, unveiling the cold truths that lie beneath. “By dressing dominance in glamour, regimes project vitality while concealing decay.
