More like an extended concert – featuring performances by Diana Ross, Dolly Parton, Alicia Keys, Miley Cyrus, and Janelle Monae – you don’t need to know what happened inside, because outside on the red carpet was where all the lewks were turned. As always, it was a mix of weird, wonderful, and WTF (not one, but two, incredibly tacky pro-Trump looks that don’t even warrant more than this as a mention). Here’s our round-up of the best of last night’s looks. CARDI B Not giving us a chance to breathe, Cardi B has had her foot placed firmly on the neck of every award ceremony she’s appeared at over the last year, and last night was no exception. Looking like Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus”, she appeared in a vintage Thierry Mugler look from the designer’s AW95 show. She didn’t stop there though. Oh no, one vintage Mugler look isn’t enough. Not even two. Serving you a trio of throwback looks, the rapper later appeared in a cheetah print bodysuit (with accompanying peacock-like corset) to perform “Money” and then in a white fringed look to snatch the award for Best Rap Album. LADY GAGA After being the first person to debut Hedi Slimane’s Celine, it was only a matter of time before Lady Gaga came to serve us up some more of the Parisian house’s fashions. Appearing in an elongated version of a silver asymmetrical dress from the designer’s debut show (look 86 to be precise), Gaga not only snatched our attention, but also three Grammys in the process. Keep an eye out for the next look the singer turns out as award ceremony season continues. ARIANA GRANDE Despite only dropping new album thank u, next last week, Ariana Grande was notably missing from last night’s award ceremony, after claiming Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich was lying about her dropping out. Not letting that stop her from serving a lewk, Ari posted an inpromptu photoshoot featuring the gown that never was – a custom Zac Posen number. “it doesn’t matter if you’re singing or not,” one caption read, while another video showed Ari’s dog riding her train. Cute! TIERRA WHACK With a nomination for Best Music Video for “Mumbo Jumbo”, Tierra Whack was also in attendance last night. Looking like a chic Muppet, the rapper wore a floor length multicoloured fuzzy coat. Like actor Cody Fern – who is among the men taking red carpet risks right now – Whack accessorised her look with Tabi boots courtesy of MM6 Maison Margiela. Despite looking good, she tweeted saying her “toes (were) bussin out” and “I’m sitting my feet in a bowl of milk when I get home”. ANDREA ECHEVERRI (ATERCIOPELADOS) Taking home the title (unofficially) for weirdest look of the night was singer from Colombian rock band Aterciopelados, Andrea Echeverri who turned up looking like an actual Grammy. Echeverri explained on the red carpet that she wore a hat that looked like a Grammy at the 2018 Latin Grammys, but wanted to step things up. While the tactic of you are what you wear (?), is a good one, it sadly didn’t pay off with the group not snatching up the award for Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album. Escape the algorithm!
