Emerging in the 50s, this film scene proved to be an instrumental force in revolutionising the cinematic conventions of the day. “It’s playing a game with reality,” Varda says, describing her approach, “The game is called cinema.” Now aged 87, this legendary film director has created a short film for Miu Miu. Les 3 Boutons, which is being premiered tonight at the Venice Film Festival, was partially shot on rue Daguerre in Paris, a place where Varda lived for fifty years. The plot follows a young girl, played by emerging actress Jasmine Thiré, who receives a Disney-like ball gown in the post. Thiré forgoes this dress in favour of her school uniform and in doing so “gently reverses the clichés of girlhood.” This is the tenth film in Miu Miu’s Women’s Tales series – an initiative started by Miuccia Prada in 2011 with the aim to celebrate the women of the silver screen, as well as the long-standing friendship between fashion and film.
