Manuela Pavesi, fashion coordinator for the brand – widely considered the right hand to Miuccia Prada – has sadly passed away at the age of 65 after a long illness. Pavesi started out as an editor for Italian Vogue before joining Prada in 2005, and leaves a lasting legacy behind as a prolific photographer and stylist. For our November 2011 issue, Pavesi shot and styled Vogue Italia’s Alice Furnari wearing all of her own clothes, including vintage Yves Saint Laurent, Comme des Garçons and of course, Prada. “The inspiration for the shoot comes from Romy Schneider in Luchino Visconti’s film Ludwig and Maria Callas on the stage,” Pavesi explained of the images. Predominantly dressed in black with eyes rimmed in kohl, and sporting either a veil or ornate crown – Pavesi captured Furnari with that Prada girl essence: able to ask questions, and simultaneously evoke them. Her presence in the industry will be sorely missed.
