For Christopher Kane, the answer's simple: we're better together. The North Lanarkshire-born designer has joined over 200 British celebrities to sign an open love letter to Scotland, urging its people to say no to independence on 18th September. Alongside artists including Sarah Lucas and Tracey Emin, the letter also bears the names of 44 Bafta winners, 12 professors, two dames and a Nobel prizewinner. Members of the public are also invited to sign the letter at letsstaytogether.org.uk. "The decision on whether to leave our shared country is, of course, absolutely yours alone," the letter reads. "Nevertheless, that decision will have a huge effect on all of us in the rest of the United Kingdom." "We want to let you know how very much we value our bonds of citizenship with you, and to express our hope that you will vote to renew them. What unites us is much greater than what divides us." Unfortunately, this may be as much as Kane can do for the No campaign. Only those resident in Scotland are allowed to vote in the referendum, and the designer is now based in London. But Kane isn't the only Scottish designer who has come out against Scottish independence. In an interview with Dazed, Glasgow-born designer Jonathan Saunders described the referendum as "nonsense". "I think we should just embrace the fact that we’re part of Great Britain," he said. "What’s wrong with that? I think that teamwork is always better."
