The time of happiness, cheer and gift-giving has come again – and what better gift is there than beauty products? They’re a crowd-pleaser. An easy win. A useful little luxury that is both glamorous and practical. In a crowded sea of brands, devices and ingredients, it can be difficult to decide what to get – which is where we come in. A lot of products have passed through the beauty desk this year and we’ve tested them all. Every now and then, we find one that really stands out, and these are what we are sharing with you now, because when it comes to beauty products, nothing beats a personal recommendation. On this list, you’ll find fragrances that smell like latex and leather, and ones that evoke the long, dark nights of Christmastime in Iceland. There are fancy beauty gadgets, statement eye masks, glossy balms and the chicest lipsticks in town. These are products that the Dazed team have used and loved this year, and we hope that they bring you as much joy as they have for us. 1/28 You may like next 1/28 1/28 Courtesy of Dries Van NotenALEX PETERS, BEAUTY DIRECTORThe gift I’d like to give: Dries Van Noten Refillable LipstickAn absolute crowd pleaser, I can’t imagine anyone who wouldn’t be impressed to receive one of these beautiful lipsticks. The cases are refillable and come in eight different options, all with clashing top and bottom patterns in very satisfying colours. Of the lipsticks themselves, there are 34 shades to choose from, of various finishes including satin, matte and sheer, so there is something for everyone! I’m also going to sneak a second product in and recommend Bleach London’s Reincarnation Mask. Not as glamorous a present as a lipstick, perhaps, but it’s the best hair mask I’ve ever used, especially when my hair is dyed or bleached. Give your friends the gift of soft hair this Christmas! The centrepiece of the collection is Le Dix, a direct recreation of the maison’s original 1947 perfume of the same name, which was analysed and dissected by the team for three years. The other scents in the collection are new but all are housed in the same gorgeous old school flacons that are a near-exact copy of the original bottle. Lots of fashion houses have fragrance now and lots of them are great – Tom Ford was on my Christmas list last year, while Balmain’s Blanc Galaxie has become one of my go-tos. But I was blown away by the Balenciaga fragrances. There are so many fantastic scents in the collection and the bottles are so beautiful you’ll want to have them out on display. I’ve given them to my mum, sister, friends and even people I don’t know that well. The new Eckhaus Latta Solar Return eye masks will impress both your fashionable and astrological friends (although there’s likely crossover there, anyway). What works is that they are cute to wear, reusable, and you can use them with whatever gels, serums or creams you already have and love as part of your under-eye routine at home. This makes them a thoughtful beauty gift that doesn’t scream I think your skin looks bad, which is a fine line to navigate when wrapping up skincare products. I can’t stop hoarding them on the top of my bedroom cabinet. I like to layer them, save them and spray different ones according to my mood (Aesop’s latest fragrance, Above Us, Steorra, is my current winter favourite). I also always put fun, travel-size ones (like Rosy Cheeks) in different handbags. While I mostly stick to fresh scents, Gabe Gordon’s new Hardbody Eau de Parfum – a fragrant interpretation of the brand’s SS26 show – has a certain kick that is not found in my growing collection. The perfume was created in collaboration with Perdrisât founder and perfumer Callum Mitchell. It has notes of rose (which I love), but there’s also a whiff of latex, metal and leather. Needless to say, I am intrigued!Buy it here.view more + 5/28 5/28 Courtesy of Perfumer HTED STANSFIELD, EDITOR-IN-CHIEFThe gift I’d like to give: Perfumer H x Scenery Incense and Incense HolderMy friend Simon, who does Scenery magazine, has collaborated with Perfumer H on this lovely incense and beautiful incense holder. It smells so delicious and comforting.Buy it here.view more + 7/28 7/28 Courtesy of OrebellaLAMIA BARAKAT, SOCIAL EDITORThe gift I’d like to give: Orebella Salted Muse Eau de ParfumThis is the perfect scent to mix with other fragrances. With woody, peppery notes that feel fresh and light, it also has an oily texture that melts into the skin thanks to its hydrating olive oil formula, which will have you looking like a beachy Arab goddess all year round. Pair this with something rich, sweet and Oudy with smoky base notes like Gucci’s A Reason to Love, or any Desert Rose Oud oil, and you’re golden, literally. Blooming Fire, with notes of bergamot, Tahitian monoi, jasmine and patchouli, is another big favourite of the team.Buy it here.view more + 8/28 8/28 Courtesy of SharkLAMIA BARAKAT, SOCIAL EDITORThe gift I’d like to receive: Shark CryoGlow Under-Eye Cooling & LED Anti-Ageing & Blemish Repair MaskI’ve always wanted to try this bad boy out, and have heard so many people swear by red light therapy recently. I went to a Therme spa in Bucharest earlier this year, and they had red light beds that I just couldn’t get enough of. This, at the start of your beauty routine, penetrates deeply and firms the skin. Follow it with Rhode’s glazing milk, and finish with Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter and a dusting of the Beautiful Skin Foundation. A hairbrush is a lovely gift to give someone. You use a brush every day, so why not make it an object that looks and feels beautiful? As Joan Didion says, every day is all there is. La Bonne Brosse is the ultimate in bringing together utility with luxury. The founders (French, of course) roped in a dermatologist, a cosmetic physician, a hair stylist and an acupuncturist to create the brush, so you, and your hair, are in the very best hands.Buy it here.view more + 12/28 12/28 Courtesy of Fara HomidiALEX PETERS, BEAUTY DIRECTORThe gift I’d like to receive: Fara Homidi Essential Lip CompactI can’t get enough of Fara Homidi. The brand ticks all the boxes: the products are super high quality, the collection is curated to luxury essentials and the packaging is just so chic – how satisfying is that signature shade of blue? All the products are great – from the concealer to the bronzer – but if I had to pick one it’s the lip compact. The shades are super flattering and it’s so easy to throw in your bag and go. I’d love to see it under the Christmas tree and I’m sure so would anyone else! For starters, all their products smell incredible, and when it comes to their bodycare offerings, they’re great for your skin, too. I have my eye on this body wash and lotion set this year: it’s not only a practical present, carefully formulated to both deeply cleanse and hydrate your skin, but it also comes in the brand’s luxurious, signature Rum scent. I know this is supposed to be the product I’d like to ‘give’, but really, I wouldn’t mind receiving it either.Buy it here.view more + 14/28 14/28 Courtesy of HourglassSERENA SMITH, DEPUTY EDITORThe gift I’d like to receive: Hourglass Phantom Volumizing Glossy BalmI bought this in the shade Trace earlier in the year, and it’s been a permanent fixture in my bag ever since. It’s everything you could want from a glossy lip balm: it lasts for ages, is genuinely hydrating, and is generally a fuss-free, easy-to-wear product – the kind that will still look good even if you’ve hurriedly reapplied it on the tube without a mirror. Plus, as I’m mixed-race, I always struggle to find lip colours that work with my skin colour, but Trace has been the perfect nude for me; now, I’ve got my eye on Slip, which looks like a flattering shade of rosy pink.Buy it here.view more + 15/28 15/28 Courtesy of The Nue CoHABI DIALLO, BRANDED CONTENT EDITORThe gift I’d like to give: Past Time by The Nue CoI have yapped to so many people about The Nue Co’s Nostalgia collection recently. Many fragrance brands strive to craft a story that evokes an emotional response through scent, but this one truly speaks for itself. Incredibly comforting and familiar, The Nue Co describes Past Time as a “memory you can’t place but can’t let go of”, and that could not be more true. If you close your eyes, I am certain it will make you rack your brain to try and remember what period or person in your life it reminds you of. Also, as a chronic fragrance layerer, it passes the test as something you can mix with other scents.Buy it here. view more + 16/28 16/28 Courtesy of Gucci BeautyHABI DIALLO, BRANDED CONTENT EDITORThe gift I’d like to receive: Gucci Gloss in 117 Joslyn Clair and 118 Suzanne BrownOne thing about me is I would rather lock myself indoors for eternity than to ever step foot without something on my lips. At any given time, I have three different lip products on me: one for gloss effect, one for hydration and one for a tint. So when I tried this Gucci lip gloss, I was incredibly impressed that it had a three-in-one combo that was formulated to actually last a while. When it dries out, instead of leaving your lips looking withered and dry, the hyaluronic acid helps keep your lips looking hydrated. This one gloss has made me want to petition to have hyaluronic acid in every lip gloss ever.Buy it here.view more + 17/28 17/28 Courtesy of FischersundGEORGE PISTACHIO, CONTENT EDITOR, ANOTHER MAGAZINEThe gift I’d like to give: Fischersund Skammdegi Discovery SetI recently found myself in Iceland (humble brag) and went to a small, family-run perfumery tucked away in Reykjavík. I’ve never fully understood the concept of a winter scent until here. The Dark Discovery set in particular seems engineered for the season’s slow, contemplative hours, and each fragrance is paired with a poem by musician Jóns, who is one member of this exceptionally talented family. At Christmastime in Iceland, daylight shrinks to under four hours, and you suddenly understand why a scent might be less about evoking warmth and more about honouring the darkness.Buy it here.view more + 18/28 18/28 Courtesy of Sarah ChapmanGEORGE PISTACHIO, CONTENT EDITOR, ANOTHER MAGAZINEThe gift I’d like to receive: Sarah Chapman Platinum Stem Cell ElixirIn my five years working at a magazine I think I’ve sampled about half a million face serums, and Sarah Chapman’s Platinum Stem Cell Elixir currently holds the crown. I prefer something that feels a little oilier beneath my moisturiser rather than sticky or flat – something that can give my skin a nice healthy sheen, making it look like I get a good night's sleep and eat my vegetables. So Santa, if you’re listening, let me glow again. It’s really rich and moisturising, but it’s also an object of great beauty – it feels weighty and luxurious to hold and I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to open and close. It comes in a few delicate tints, but my favourite is just the clear Colorchromophobia. It has four modes – Air Shot, Booster, Microcurrent or Derma Shot – each with various benefits, from stimulating lymphatic drainage to clearing up breakouts. In the lead up to my wedding I tried everything to help calm my angry skin down and blue light therapy was the one. So the most natural next step is to graduate to an at home mask for daily use, which I might have to ask several parties to chip in for. This mask uses both red and blue light wavelengths to help blemishes and to calm irritation - exactly what my skin wants for Christmas and beyond.Buy it here.view more + 22/28 22/28 Courtesy of Matiere PremiereIDDY DE VIELL, HEAD OF COMMERCIAL BEAUTYThe gift I’d like to give: Matiere Premiere Hand and Body LotionWinter has arrived, everyone’s skin is misbehaving, and my partner keeps on ‘accidentally’ emptying my moisturiser every morning. The products are excellent, and the clean, minimalist packaging makes everything feel quite bougie despite the affordable price point. I got their blurring lip liner a few weeks ago and I’ve been throwing it in my handbag every day since. It’s so versatile, more like a moisturising lip balm that you can build up depending on your mood. While it’s hard to pick just one (is it really too much to ask for all of them?), the smoky Havana Gold – all liquorice, tonka and tobacco – feels especially warming for winter.
