At the end of May, beauty YouTuber Jaclyn Hill launched Jaclyn Cosmetics – her first foray into make-up. Fans of Hill were left disappointed though, when upon receiving the nude lipsticks, found they appeared to be out of date, and were crumbly, covered in tiny white hairs, and described as ‘mouldy’.
After initially defending the products – Hill said they were not mouldy, contaminated, or hazardous – the blogger continued to receive lots of criticism on social media even after issuing refunds for everyone, and then promptly deleted all of her accounts without notice.
A month later, Hill has returned to YouTube – her Instagram and Twitter accounts still remain deactivated – to share the reasoning behind it. “I got into this place where I was so clouded and unable to rebuild my brand, unable to figure out what's going on, and I knew in order to get right, in order to make my brand right, I need to get me right,” she shares. “I was just like I can't do this... I need to focus.”
She goes on to talk about how “embarrassed” she was by the launch that was a “failure” and that she would not be working with the lab who produced the products again. For now, there’s no news on whether Hill will be releasing new products anytime soon, but she has promised to start posting beauty tutorials again.
