The beauty guru has released a video responding to outrage over her ‘mouldy’ lipstick scandal

OG YouTube star and beauty entrepreneur Jaclyn Hill has come under fire for her newly released “mouldy” looking lipsticks. Jaclyn Cosmetics was launched May 30 with a collection of nude lipsticks, but much to fans’ dismay, upon delivery, the lipsticks appeared to be out of date, crumbly, and with flecks of what fans have described as “white hairs”.

“Why is my @jaclyncosmetics Decaf lipstick lumpy?? @Jaclynhill This cant be ok right?? #jaclyncosmetics #jaclynhill” tweeted one commenter. “Not sure what kind of hair is on my lipstick but its disgusting,” wrote another.

After being further scrutinised by beauty watchdogs @Esteelaundry, Hill has finally responded with a 14-minute video titled, My Lipsticks.

"My lipsticks are not mouldy. They are not hazardous. They are not contaminated. They are not unsafe for you in any way shape or form. Every single ingredient in my lipstick is new and it is FDA approved," Hill says in the video.

"We made a lot of product in a very short amount of time and although we all thought it was gonna be perfect and fresh that's not the case,"

In the video, which has since gathered 3.6 million views, Hill defends her formula, saying the black dots spotted on some customers' lipsticks were in fact “oxygen bubbles that have been lifted to the surface - a result of the products having been moved from a warm environment to a cooler environment. Her response to the white hairs was that they were not mould, but rather cotton fibres from employee’s gloves in the factory.

“Because my lipstick component is a silver, shiny, almost metal-like material, my lab – instead of using a standard glove that they would use in the lab – they decided to use white cotton gloves,” she said.

Apologising for the mishap, Jacyln is encouraging buyers to email help@jaclyncosmetics.com with a picture of their faulty lipstick for a full refund and brand new product. Let’s hope she gets this second batch right.
