Arts+CultureNewsTinder's premium dating app more expensive if you're olderIf you're over 28 you'll have to pay £11 more per month than those younger than youShareLink copied ✔️March 3, 2015Arts+CultureNewsTextThomas Gorton Tinder has rolled out the price lists for it's new premium dating feature Tinder Plus, announcing some pretty interesting pricing structures – if you're over 28 you'll have to pay considerably more than somebody a year younger. So not only are you creeping towards 30 still totally single, it turns out that your misery is really expensive too. If you're between 18 and 27, the Tinder upgrade will set you back a fairly reasonable £3.99 per month. But once you've crossed the border way into your late twenties, Tinder ups your subscription costs to £14.99 per month. Tinder Plus boasts two new features that its free-of-charge predecessor doesn't have. One is "Passport", a feature that enables you to chat with other users around the world, rather than being restricted by your immediate surroundings. This means that if know you have time away coming up, you can put in the groundwork before you land. The second one is "Rewind", a feature that enables you to take back your last swipe, thus reconnecting you with that guy wearing an animal onesie you really think was the one. So why is Tinder charging 28 year olds nearly four times as much? Do they have more disposable income? Are they four times more desperate? A Tinder statement tried to clear the air. "We've priced Tinder Plus based on a combination of factors, including what we've learned through our testing, and we've found that these price points were adopted very well by certain age demographics," said Tinder spokeswoman Rosette Pambakian. "Lots of products offer differentiated price tiers by age, like Spotify does for students, for example. Tinder is no different; during our testing we've learned, not surprisingly, that younger users are just as excited about Tinder Plus but are more budget constrained and need a lower price to pull the trigger." Whatever Tinder says, paying nearly £200 per year for the privilege of using two fairly minimal upgrades is likely to alienate its customer base. What do you think about the pricing structures? Would you pay that much for Tinder Plus? Don't worry – if this all depresses you too much, you can always unwind with a joint. There's a Tinder for stoners, too.
