On January 19, a mysterious website with the URL 190823.co.uk appeared online with the Aphex Twin logo attached in the tab. As the website begins to load, the word ‘London’ is displayed on the screen, alongside the same logo within the o’s. Coincidentally, the URL aligns with the date of Field Day (19/08/23), as does the company to whom the mailing list link belongs too (Waxarch Limited). This would not be the 51-year-old’s first rodeo at Field Day, having headlined back in 2017. However, this would be the first known performance by the artist – real name Richard D James – since his set at Printworks back in 2019. Whilst Aphex Twin’s performances have not been numerous in recent years, his output has been varied. Back in 2021, the artist and UK startup company ODDsound released a microtonal synth plugin and in 2022 released a sample plugin called Samplebrain. Join Dazed Club and be part of our world!
