Rather than showing in step with the traditional calendar, the French designer dips in and out when he pleases, and often skips Paris altogether for even more glamorous locations across the globe. Take today’s SS27 show for example. Paris Fashion Week men’s had just concluded a mere 12 hours earlier, but that didn’t stop Simon from stealing its thunder by whisking the fashion press off to Corsica for his own runway. Once they’d arrived on the French island, guests made their way to Île-Rousse, a seaside town on the northern coast of Corsica. With his penchant for taking guests far and wide, Jacquemus’ show space was the windy pathway to Phare de la Pietra, an 169-years-old lighthouse 64 metres above sea-level. Some familiar faces that made the climb were Isabelle Huppert, in floor-sweeping navy skirts; influencer Quenlin Blackwell in a flowy teal ensemble, and Industry’s Kiernan Shipka in a black spaghetti-strap dress. The most unlikely frow-mates, however, were Essex rapper and Dazed cover star fakemink, sitting alongside singer and (former?) Katseye member Manon Bannerman. In a clip posted online from the frow, we see fakemink moving a water bottle out of the way so Bannerman can take her seat (a gentleman!). And while their musical output might seem worlds apart, the pair clearly got on – the sleuths at r/fakemink reported that Bannerman followed mink on Instagram straight after the show. White outfits with colourful accents dominated the first few looks – think a long mango skirt beneath a loose white vest, turquoise briefs and a bright white shirt, or snowy slacks with a golden yellow robe. After that came more flashes orf colour: an orange leather suit, baby blue pyjama shorts and a voluminous pink skirt. This season, the designer was inspired by “a summer spent outside”, which was reflected in the joyful name of the collection, Le Bonheur. “This collection is an expression of freshness, movement and bright colors; of direct attraction and elemental ease,” said the house in this season’s show notes. Later on in the show, the hues deepened to navys, crimsons and blacks, while the diaphanous day clothes transformed into sultry eveningwear perfect for a balmy summer date. “I imagined this collection like the summer itself,” said the designer after the show. “The sun, the colours, the beauty of simple things, the feeling of lightness. For me, this is happiness.” Scroll through the gallery at the top of the page for the entire SS27 collection Escape the algorithm!
