Blackhaine

New Music Friday: 5 albums to stream this week

Blackhaine delivers a hard-hitting EP, Neneh Cherry drops a career-spanning tribute album, and µ-Ziq shares a glitchy new release

Featuring visceral reflections on a slow motion car crash, Blackhaine’s latest EP Armour II sees the Manchester-based artist and producer Rainy Miller double down on their distinct style of drill noise through eerie retellings of motorway accidents, long nights and inner-city madness. As with Armour’s first instalment, Blackhaine’s dark meditations, dislocated words and phrases, are set against a bleak backdrop of industrial soundscapes, made to conjure the grey northern surroundings of small-town Salford. With contributions by Blood Orange and Iceboy Violet, it’s gloomy yet poetic, charged with anecdotes of generational trauma and terror.

Elsewhere, Chase and Status return with a sixth album, Neneh Cherry drops a career-spanning tribute album, and µ-Ziq shares a glitchy new release.
